...and thank goodness for that. While our main motivation is to get the front room painted for use as a studio, we have a door that is in desperate need of paint that I'll show below. These first will give you quick idea of the gold color that we struggle with:
The rich tones are the result of living with a younger version of Martha Stewart :-) But as long as we thought as long as we were at it, we would have Dennis, the painter, spruce up this door for us:
If you can't tell, we are pretty excited about this. We've been doing a lot of practice shooting; checking out backdrops, testing out different light configurations, getting comfortable with metering lights with studio strobes and played around with some more advanced photography techniques, like Pocket Wizard's Hyper Sync. (There's just something fun about saying "Pocket Wizard!" :-) If any strobists look at the photos, you can see a little clipping on some of the shots we did at 1/2000 of a second.
It's a different style of shooting from what Nancy is used to as an event and street photographer. CJ is more calculated, so the precision of shooting in a studio is appealing to him. All about a meshing of talent. With Tanner doing most of the behind the scenes work, we make for a pretty good team and offer diversity with our talents. (Of course, when Nancy is doing books, we usually have to get support from the fourth member of the team, our editor-in-chief and creative marketing director Sammy in Chicago. She recently did a book of her own using Nancy's photos.)
Not sure if Dennis will finish this weekend, but hopefully us priming the ceiling helps the process. And hopefully we'll be begging for some models soon. We'll keep you all posted!
